For each of the several thousand captured American privateers listed in this volume, the following information is provided: the name of his ship, the date of his confinement in a British prison, the date or dates of his pardon, exchange, release or escape, and a source citation. The work further includes an informative introduction, a list of American ships captured by the British during the Revolution, and a bibliography of sources.
