This valuable work, the only published list of passengers for the period, originally appeared without an index. To facilitate searching through the many lists for a particular name we have compiled a complete index which lists both family and given names. The text itself contains 10,247 names arranged according to periodic returns by local Collectors of Customs. The data given includes the name, age, sex, occupation, and origin of each immigrant and the name of the ship on which he arrived. The arrangement is by ports, located mainly in Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia.
