Contemporary Middle East and North Africa Politics

This volume includes 100 short pieces, addressing the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s conflicts and historical evolution, relating them to contemporary issues based on the exploratory research methodology. The readings cover Emerging Trends; The Levant; The Arabian Peninsula; The Nile Valley; The Maghreb; and The Turkish-Iranian Belt. This volume is useful reading for college students at the graduate and undergraduate levels, non-specialist academicians, policymakers, and business people. During the past three decades, there has been an increasing demand to understand the MENA region because of the impact of militant Islam, oil policies, uprisings, and political turmoil. The volume draws attention to the events in the MENA region in the past few decades, shedding light on fundamental, seemingly unyielding problems, and the failure of the ruling elite to transform their societies into politically and economically developed countries. The analysis is adapted from work published between 2019 and 2022 in the Geopolitical Futures forum.
