In his previous book, Some Things I Think I Said, Waltman displayed his triple-threat writing, with his mix of short stories, poetry, and humor. Three days of interviews with his family, old friends, and neighbors in the black communities of Pittsburgh yielded more clarity and truth than anticipated. When Lemon Happened, How Lemon Happened – Beltzhoover Pride became bigger than just Lemon and Beltzhoover. It represents the struggles and achievements by those who grew up without the benefit of societal privilege.
